AN exciting double bill of dance action for children is all set to explode into the Jerwood DanceHouse next week.

Moko Dance is a national dance partnership led by DanceEast and dedicated to opening the eyes of young people and families to the power of dance.

The partnership will present its first touring production, Moko Mix, at DanceEast starting on Wednesday.

The company is now in residence at the DanceHouse and it is putting the finishing touches to the productions before embarking on a national tour.

Moko Dance is supported by Arts Council England and the programme is aimed at children aged seven and over and also at families.

The two shows, The Rock and The Suitcase Story, will have their world premieres at the DanceHouse.

The Rock has been devised and choreographed by Tamsin Fitzgerald, founder of the all-male 2Faced Dance Company.

It is a dance adventure telling the story of a group of children from a remote town who meet at a mysterious place called The Rock to share stories.

Set in a dark eerie clearing, The Rock is a place where strange events unfurl and the friends discover what happens when their secrets spring to life.

The Suitcase Story is a poignant and uplifting dance show about a little girl and her magical travelling suitcase, devised and choreographed by Christopher Marney.

Christopher has choreographed and performed in a range of critically acclaimed productions, including Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, and created work for ballet companies and shows in London’s West End.

Before and after the shows, DanceEast will be running Moko Sphere activities, giving youngsters a chance to make their own Moko moves and create their own mini-suitcase.

The shows will run at DanceEast from Wednesday, February 27 to Friday, March 1 at 11am and 1.30pm. ]Shows will also run on Saturday, March 2 at 11am and 2pm.

Tickets cost £6 or £20 for a family of four. Call 01473 295230 for more details.
