Characters from some of the best-loved children’s films were recreated in a tour de force of extravagant hairdressing.

Suffolk New College students dazzled when they strode on stage and catwalked the range of hair cuts put together by their friends.

From the Queen of Hearts to Cruella de Vil to Princess Leia – Kate Rupp, programme leader for hairdressing, was impressed by the students’ hard work.

“The event went really well, the students had been preparing for eight weeks prior to the event so a lot of work went into it,” she said.

“Parents were there and we also invited students who are putting in applications for next year – so we had quite a different audience, with families and potential students; there really was a feel good factor.”

Ellie Edwards won first place in the level one category; while Michael Makin was first in the level two category.

The judges were all from local businesses: Martin Wilson from Antonio Giovanni, Sheena Sanderson from KooKoo Hair Design and Emma Knights from Adam and Eve.

Mrs Rupp added: “The judges had the difficult job of deciding the winners as there was some fantastic work from all levels. The students all worked hard throughout the day to achieve their total looks, all the planning and preparation was well worth it, as all enjoyed the show.”
