SHOPPERS converged among flower and food stalls at a market event.

Fore Street, part of the newly-dubbed Blackfriars area of town, hosted the Food, Fashion and Flower Market that saw businesses set up stalls offering an array of foods and household items.

Crowds gathered at the market, which was held yesterday, to get their hands on cheese, pies, cakes, jewellery and clothes.

There was also a number of flower stalls selling both real and artificial plants and garden produces.

Shoppers were entertained throughout the day with performances from the Co-Op Band and the Samboomba Samba Band.

Food stalls included Tile Kiln Barn’s hog roast, burgers and sausages, gourmet coffee from Xpresso, Memorable Cheeses, Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine from a Passage to India and Suffolk Spanish Traders.

The borough council has been working to revive Fore Street, which has more listed buildings than any other street in the town, after months of roadworks took toll on business owners.

The work, carried out by National Grid, left Fore Street, Orwell Place, Upper Orwell Street and Eagle Street isolated from the rest of the town and caused traders to loose thousands of pounds in takings.
