It’s not often that you see giraffes, wolves and zebras wandering around the streets of Ipswich.

But that was the sight that greeted many people as a group of fundraisers trekked around town in an array of onesies.

The group of 24 took to the streets in their all in one adult baby grows to raise cash for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The event was organised by Julie West, bar supervisor at the Bramford Cock, and saw both staff and punters unite to take to the streets in the name of charity.

“We had people dressed up in all sorts of onesies,” the mother-of-two said. “I don’t really know where the idea came from but we had lots of people sign up to do it so everyone seemed to think it was a good idea.

“We chose the charity as our charity of the year because I think it is something that people are very supportive about.

“The Onesie Walk was great fun, we had people dressed in giraffe onesies and as wolves and zebras.

“We got a great reaction from people driving past. I think they thought we were silly – people were hooting their horns as they went past.

“When cars stopped at traffic lights they were throwing money out their car windows and into our collection buckets.”

The 10-mile walk started at the Bramford Cock and took in a number of pubs in the area, including The Wild Man in Sproughton, the Red Lion in Bramford Road, The Mermaid in Yarmouth Road, The Greyhound in Henley Road, The Inkerman in Norwich Road, The Suffolk Punch also in Norwich Road, The Maypole in Old Norwich Road and back to the Bramford Cock.

The Onsie Walk raised £1,500, and other events are planned for the next few weeks in aid of EACH.

Ms West added: “We were really pleased with how it went and we have a few more events coming up so hopefully we will raise around £2,500 by March.”

The pub has been raising money for different charities for the past four years and have previously supported a breast cancer charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Last year the pub raised £1,300 for Ipswich tot Erin Colley who fought leukaemia.

On March 9, staff at the Bramford Cock are to host a Hawaiian night. Anyone wishing to attend should show up on the night. There are no tickets, but donations will be accepted inside.
