Children from across the region are getting active at Ickworth House near Bury St Edmunds this summer as they respond to a gauntlet thrown down by the National Trust.

The historic house is holding Out and About Wednesdays throughout the holidays as part of the National Trust’s “50 things to do before you’re 11¾ years” challenge. Activities yesterday included making small models of people with pine cones, in partnership with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.

This follows on from sessions making mud pies, where the youngsters even made a Mud Bury St Edmunds and a Mud Ipswich. Activities in the coming weeks include trying to catch leaves falling from trees across the park.

Event organiser Liz Thomas said: “They all love it. We’re all working towards getting them out closer to nature, back out into nature and helping them to understand nature better.”
