Gallery: Hundreds enjoy Lark in the Park and Brass on the Grass in Ipswich

It has been a busy afternoon for Ipswich’s parks as crowds braved the drizzle for two community events.

Hundreds of families turned out for the 15th Lark in the Park held at Gippeswyk Park, organised by Chantry Residents’ Association.
The green space was open from 11am to 4.30pm and offered funfair attractions, bouncy castles, a bungee climb, trampolining, donkey rides, car boot sales and a special performance from the Silver Spinners Majorettes.
Residents’ association chairman Charles Moore described the event as a day for local people to come together and enjoy.
Year 10 pupils from chantry’s Suffolk New Academy came out to help the association members set-up and decorate the park yesterday morning.
Mr Moore said: “It went well except for the weather which messed it up a bit but we had a few come along and the ones who turned up enjoyed it.”
All the proceeds from the day will go back into the Chantry Residents’ Association charity funds.

Mr Moore said they usually only managed to break even after the expense of the day, but he had not yet counted the money that was made.
“It’s in support of a local charity so local residents usually always come down to show their support,” he added.
Meanwhile, The Friends of Christchurch Park hosted an afternoon of music with two of Suffolk’s youth wind bands for Brass on the Grass.
Presented in association with Suffolk County Music and Suffolk Music Hub, South Suffolk Youth Concert Band, conducted by Mark Sewell, and South Suffolk Youth Wind Orchestra, conducted by Mark Whiteman, took to the Upper Arboretum Lawn to entertain damp spectators.
