Hundreds of people got their bikes out of the sheds and hit the streets of Suffolk on Sunday as the mass participation Cycle Swarm got under way.

Organisers of the event, which began and ended at Ipswich’s Christchurch Park, have hailed it a major success, with an estimated 1,000 people taking part.

After leaving the park, participants had the choice of 100, 50 and 25-mile routes around the county.

Matt Parkhouse, Cycle Swarm event organiser, said: “It has gone really well. Everybody seems to have had fun, there have been no incidents at all, so all in all it has been a successful day.”

Cycle Swarm has been running in Ipswich for two years and with its success continuing to grow, it is already booked in to take place in October next year.
