A charity inspired by a brave young woman from Ipswich and her battle with cystic fibrosis has collected £1,650 for other sufferers during a festive fundraiser.
The Kerry Alex Thorpe Trust said it was “overwhelmed” by the generosity of guests and supporters at its Christmas concert last night.
A sell-out crowd of around 250 spectators packed the Foxhall Community Centre for performances from singing groups, musicians and nursery children, all of whom gave their time free of charge. A charity raffle was also held, with dozens of generous prizes donated.
The Trust, which formed after Kerry’s death in March, aged just 23, has now raised more than £15,000 to help other young people with cystic fibrosis – a genetic disease affecting the lungs and digestive system.
Kerry’s mum Jacqui Brett, who helps run the Trust with Kerry’s fiancée Josh Nelli, his sister Megan Nelli and Kerry’s granddad Len Jay, said it was a “fantastic evening” and thanked everyone for their support.
“It was an absolutely brilliant event and we are totally overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who helped out,” she added.
Funds raised will help the Trust give “wishes” to children who suffer with cystic fibrosis.
