MORE than 2,000 women raised thousands of pounds for St Elizabeth Hospice by taking part in the charity's annual Midnight Walk.

Helped by about 180 volunteers, 2,300 women took part in an eight-mile circular walk on Saturday around Ipswich and it is thought that up to 205,000 has been raised for the hospice.

Helen Causer, marketing manager at the hospice, said: “It was really good and a great atmosphere.

“So many of the women had dressed up and were doing it in memory of somebody special or because they had ties with the hospice.

“We had Superwoman and Wonder Woman and all sorts of tutus and people with wigs.”

Last year the walk attracted just under 200 women and organisers were delighted with how it went this year.

“Last year we had about 185 walkers so obviously this was a much bigger event. We are so pleased with how the Ipswich and east Suffolk community came out to support their local hospice.

“Hopefully next year will be bigger and better.

“The hospice has to raise 5.2m each year to run the services and events like this are really important to us. The money raised will make a real difference to the lives of patients and their families now and in the future.”
