Children’s charity Ormiston launched a new event aimed at encouraging youngsters to become fitter as well as boosting funds for the organisation.

The first ever Children’s Marathon in Ipswich took place at Trinity Park yesterday – and the fine weather brought out youngsters from 0-16 years old on to the 2.6 mile course.

Most made it around through their own efforts, but the youngest needed a ride in their pushchair for at least part of the distance.

Mum-of-two Kim Smith used the Children’s Marathon as the perfect excuse to get her two girls out and about in the warm weather. She said: “The Children’s Marathon is a great opportunity to get children outside being active and interested in sports and exercise. Ormiston have created a fantastic event.”

She was a keen runner herself before taking a break to have children. Kim has completed the London Marathon, several half marathons and many other races.
