INSPECTORS say pupils at a Felixstowe school are making fast progress and standards are rising quickly.

Although the overall grading for Causton Junior was “requires improvement”, the leadership team at the 236-pupil school are not disappointed and say it is moving in the right direction and are taking plenty of positives from their Ofsted report.

Headteacher Lizzie Girling said: “They didn’t identify anything we didn’t already know – all the issues raised we were aware of and already working on.

“We worked very closely with the inspection team during their visit and they were very impressed with the things we have done. Changes take time to bed in and the results don’t happen overnight.

“We think it is a positive picture of the school. It shows we are moving in the right direction and we just need to keep on doing what we are doing, and we are very determined to get to the next level and be graded as a ‘good’ school.

“We are absolutely on the right track and very pleased that the report celebrates many of the excellent things the school is doing.”

One major change the school in Maidstone Road has made is to have closer analysis of the progress of students – with teachers, pupils and parents working together and making assessments every half-term to see how children are improving, achieving targets, and encouraging them and looking at new ways of helping them to move forward.

Ofsted inspectors Nick Butt and Terence Cook found “pupils’ progress is speeding up, and standards are rising quickly”.

Pupils behaved well and are keen to learn, and excel at sport and enjoy many clubs and visits.
