Gallery: Thousands defy the drizzle for Ipswich Music Day 2014, which has proven to be a great success

A spot of drizzle has not been enough to deter thousands of people from descending on Christchurch Park for Ipswich’s annual Music Day, which has been declared a major success.
Acoustic, rock, pop and soul musicians were among the strong line-up for the 2014 festival, which boasted a range of stages, attractions and refreshments outlets for people to enjoy.
The borough-council run event has now been taking place for more than 20 years, but those behind it are determined to keep improving it.
James Young, the council’s events manager, said: “We think we are offering Ipswich a music day that is bigger and better than ever before.
“We have got lots for the whole family to do with five main stages, which is supplemented by other entertainment venues.

“We are very proud of it (Music Day) and long may it continue.”
The event started out as part of a nationwide movement when towns and cities all celebrated a music in the park event.

The Ipswich show is one of just a few which remains.
It has built up a national reputation over the years, giving the town’s unsigned artists a chance to perform while also showcasing upcoming talent, such as Ed Sheeran, just before his breakthrough in 2010.
It is a major part of the IP-Art festival, which gives people from all different backgrounds access to a range of arts events.
Mr Young said the success of the Music Day was also down to the work of volunteers and the support of partner agencies and sponsors.
He added: “This is a real plus for Ipswich, Suffolk and beyond.”
