Thousands of football fans descended on Ipswich on Tuesday night as some of England’s top young players took on their Lithuanian counterparts at Portman Road.

A crowd of more than 17,000 watched the under 21s win 5-0, at a game many youngsters will never forget.

The early kick off mean that thousands of school children and players from junior football teams across the region were able to attend the game.

Among them were members of Stowupland Falcons under 8’s team.

Club secretary, Simon Horswill, said: “We thought it would be a good experience for them to see the future England players. We think it is absolutely brilliant.”

Mike Stokes, 46, manager of Cambridgeshire-based side Swavesey Spartans, added: “It is just great for them to see players like Zaha who they wouldn’t normally see.”
