Paris, New York, Milan and now Ipswich.

The town followed in the footsteps of some of the fashion capitals of the world on Wednesday night to stage the town’s first-ever Ipswich Fashion Week.

More than 500 people packed into the Corn Exchange to take their seats around the catwalk the fashion extravaganza showcasing the autumn/winter trends for this season.

Organiser Pam Davis, of Fashion Candy, said she was thrilled with the success of the event which has firmly placed Ipswich on the fashion map.

“In a nutshell it was absolutely amazing,” she added. “Everybody worked so hard behind the scenes to make it possible.

“We had a few hurdles to overcome in the run up to it and we produced what we think was a fantastic show.

“Everyone we have spoken to said it was the best fashion show they had ever been to, which is a great endorsement, and that it’s put Ipswich back on the fashion map.”

Dozens of models took to the catwalk to showcase the town’s latest fashion offerings with clothing, jewellery, handbags and wedding dresses from Just A Day and Grace and Lace.

The event showcased independent retailers including Coes, Urban Vintage, Deja Vu Boutique, Cake and Catwalk and Aura among many others as well as High Street stores Debenhams and Marks & Spencer.

The fashion show was compered by Simon Milton, ITFC’s academy sponsorship manager, while some of the players modelled the club’s Planet Blue range.

X Factor stars Next of Kin opened and closed the show with an acoustic set, which featured their audition song,

Ms Davis added: “Next of Kin were just fantastic. They are such lovely boys and were happy to go around and have their photos taken.

“The ITFC boys just added another dimension.”

Ms Davis is hoping to run another fashion show in April with the spring/summer trends.

The final part of Ipswich Fashion Week will take place tomorrow at Ipswich Town Hall with various demonstrations from Suffolk New College students from 10am to 4pm.
