Emergency gas works which closed Belstead Road in Ipswich today are set to continue until Friday.

National Grid is conducting the work, to locate and repair a damaged gas escape.

Three pipes connecting homes to the gas main also need to be replaced.

The road has been closed to all traffic today, and the closure will continue until work ends, which is due to be on Friday (November 20).

A National Grid spokesman said the nature of the road and works meant it was not possible to put in traffic restrictions, such as traffic lights.
