ABBA, The Beatles, Queen, Oasis, the Rolling Stones, Carpenters, Atomic Kitten, Marvin Gaye, Elvis, Nat, Ella, Bing . . . what do they have in common?
They've all played Felixstowe's Spa Pavilion in the past few years – or at least their lookalikes and soundalikes have.
Tribute bands are big business these days and the resort's seafront venue seems to be a mecca for them.
Next up are Talon, a tribute to 70s band The Eagles – and the critics say they are pretty good.
But spending your life as a faded pop star is big business these days. Talon's last tour was a sell-out all over the country, the group has its own web site, and it records CDs to sell at its gigs.
The talented five-piece work hard to replicate The Eagles' sound – especially the five-part harmonies and memorable guitar solos – and it looks to make the concerts as authentic as possible.
The group appear at the Spa at 8pm on September 6.
Peter Anderson is on acoustic, 12 String and electric guitars, banjo and piano; Conrad Carpenter on classical, electric and slide guitars, piano and keyboards; Jonathon Miller plays bass guitar and keyboards; Simon Millest drums and percussion, and Chris Lloyd guitars, harmonica and keyboards.
In the first part of the evening Talon play much of the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over album, starting with the strains of the classical guitar leading into an acoustic version of Hotel California, perhaps their best-known song.
This leads into Best of My Love, Seven Bridges Road, and includes songs such as Tequila Sunrise, Peaceful Easy Feeling and Lyin' Eyes.
The second half sees a dramatic change in style and pace –Heartache Tonight, Life in the Fast Lane, Take it Easy, and classic ballads like Take it to the Limit and Desperado, with the climax an original version of Hotel California.
Talon have also recently been back in the studio – at Matt Terry's new Vada studio and rehearsal rooms in Stratford – working on a new CD, their first for two years.
