Get to game early officials warn

OFFICIALS from Ipswich Town were today urging fans to arrive early for tonight's first home match of the Premiership season against Derby County at Portman Road.

OFFICIALS from Ipswich Town were today urging fans to arrive early for tonight's first home match of the Premiership season against Derby County at Portman Road.

Extensive building work at the ground during the close season means thousands of fans will be unfamiliar about where they are heading – and there are fears that many will not be in their seats by the scheduled kick-off time.

There were serious delays before the pre-season friendly with PSV caused by fans arriving to collect tickets at the last minute.

Today the club appealed to fans picking up tickets from the ground before the match to turn up at the ticket office in Constantine Road at least an hour before kick-off.

They are expecting 600 people to collect tickets before the match – the ticket office is open all day.

Derby have returned 500 of their allocated tickets to the match and these are being sold to Portman Plus and Blues Crew members in person from the ticket office – no telephone sales can be undertaken.

Every ticket has a turnstile number printed on it. Fans have to use these turnstiles to get in and out of the ground – they will be turned away from any others they try to use.

A major change in comparison to the PSV game is that the Constantine Road entrance will be open for some fans in the South Stand.

Most fans will continue to enter the stand through the Portman Road entrance – but those with seats on the Britannia Stand side of the ground will have to use the Constantine Road entrance.

Check the turnstile number on the bottom of your ticket – if it says one to nine go to the Portman Road entrance, if it says 59-62 go to Constantine Road.

There will be no access to the Britannia Stand through the Constantine Road entrance. Entry to that stand is through the turnstiles in Sir Alf Ramsey Way.

The Cobbold Stand will be fully open for the match – pushing the total capacity up to more than 23,000.

Before the match there will be a firework show to keep fans entertained and encourage them to turn up early.

Club officials are confident that fans will arrive in time and avoid the congestion that caused the kick-off of the PSV match to be delayed.
