Singer Gilbert O’Sullivan has cancelled his performance tonight at the Ipswich Corn Exchange.

Ticket holders were informed on Friday. They were told the Irish singer – known for his early 1970s hits Alone Again, Clair, and Get Down – will come to Ipswich in September instead.

Doctors told Gilbert he is suffering from a chest infection and is therefore not well enough to perform.

Original tickets will remain valid for the new show, scheduled for September 10 at the Regent.

Those unable to make the new date will be given refunds.

Gilbert told fans last night: “I had hoped to be well enough to perform in Ipswich tomorrow, but due to a lingering chest infection and cough, my doctor has advised me to stay in bed.

“Once again, I’m sorry to let you down, postponing shows is something I always try and avoid as I know the inconvenience it causes you all.”
