IPSWICH police are appealing for witnesses today following two separate accostings of girls who were approached by men in Chantry and Maidenhall.

The first accosting took place between 12.55pm and 1.10pm yesterday in Maidenhall Green.

Two 12-year-old girls were walking past a row of shops when a man approached them from a side road, he grabbed an arm of each girl and pushed them along for a few steps. He walked off in the direction of Belstead Avenue.

The offender is described as: a white male, 35-40 years old, 6ft tall of medium build with light brown collar length hair, greying in places. He wore a light blue sweatshirt, light coloured trousers or jeans and gold chain around his neck.

Pc Nicholas Nunn at Ipswich Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or recognises the offender from the description.

In a separate incident two 16-year-old girls were walking along Birkfield Drive, Ipswich, at around 4.20pm yesterday.

A black man in a gold coloured car pulled up alongside the girls, pipped the car horn to catch their attention and beckoned them to get into his car, they ignored him and he drove off.

Acting Sergeant Jeff Irving would like to hear from anyone with information.

Calls should be made to police on 01473 613500.
