It was hardly an Indian summer at the Waterfront in Ipswich - the chilly breeze saw to that - but the bright sunshine certainly encouraged people to venture out of their homes and offices.

And while the weekend weather might be damp and gloomy - without providing enough rain to really make a difference - next week the dry spell is due to make a comeback.

Wednesday may have given us a damp afternoon and evening - but according to Evening Star weatherman Ken Blowers less than a quarter of an inch fell in Ipswich.

That was hardly enough to green up the lawn - and will have done little good to fields and gardens that are in need of a good soak.

But while next week is expected to be largely dry with fog at night, there is some good news for gardeners in the long-range weather forecast.

Experts at the Met Office predict more unsettled weather with periods of heavy rain towards the end of the month.
