A rider who reportedly tested positive for drugs was arrested after an unregistered vehicle was stopped by police.

Officers from the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team stopped the go-ped - a scooter with a small engine on the back - in Ipswich on Thursday, October 18, saying the vehicle was “unroadworthy”.

They later took to Twitter to say they had “arrested the rider following a positive @DrugWipeUK and also #seized the unroadworthy go-ped due to the rider having no licence and no insurance”.

Under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act, police have the power to seize any vehicle that is being driven without a valid insurance policy or where the driver does not hold a valid driving licence.

Following a seizure of a vehicle, officers are required to issue a seizure notice and leaflet, as well as inform drivers that, if they want to recover the vehicle, they must comply with the instructions contained within the leaflet.
