POLICE are today investigating the rape of a woman in Suffolk and are appealing for a Good Samaritan who helped her, to come forward.The victim flagged down a passing motorist following the attack and the woman motorist took her to Ipswich Police Station in Civic Drive to report the crime.

POLICE are today investigating the rape of a woman in Suffolk and are appealing for a Good Samaritan who helped her, to come forward.

The victim flagged down a passing motorist following the attack and the woman motorist took her to Ipswich Police Station in Civic Drive to report the crime.

The motorist found the victim in Sir Alf Ramsey Way, close to the Ipswich Town Football Club's Portman Road stadium between 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday December 14.

Although the victim had been attacked in Sproughton she managed to make her way back to Ipswich to find help, however police have declined to say how she got back.

A police spokeswoman said detectives want to trace the Good Samaritan as part of their investigation into the incident.

She said: “We are very keen to speak with the woman who helped the victim on the night the incident occurred.

“She may have information which could help us with our inquiries.”

A 30-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail.

He is due to return to Ipswich Police Station to face further questions relating to the incident at a later date.
