THE Queen Mother surprised and delighted a crowd of well-wishers in Scotland today when she appeared with Prince Charles at a charity event.

The 101-year-old Queen Mum's appearance in Aberdeenshire was her first public outing since recent fears over her heath.

She had not been expected at the event at Alford Transport Museum, where the Prince of Wales unveiled a statue of an Aberdeen Angus bull.

The Prince told the crowd of his delight at being accompanied by his grandmother.

He said: "Can I first of all say what a marvellous occasion this is, particularly that Her Majesty, my grandmother, has been able to come on this special day.''

The Queen Mother is a top breeder of Aberdeen Angus cattle and has been the patron of the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society for 64 years.
