A bizarre alleged sighting of a UFO near RAF Woodbridge more than 20 years ago was released by the Government today under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Ministry of Defence's restricted "Rendlesham File" was one of the first documents to be released as part of an opening-up of the inner workings of Whitehall.

Before today, the document has only been seen by about 20 people, who requested access to it through the American Freedom of Information Act.

Over dozens of pages which could have come from a script of the X-Files, the sighting of a glowing triangular "strange glowing object'' in Rendlesham forest near RAF Woodbridge in the early hours of December 27, 1980 is described in colourful detail.
