A TEENAGER scratched his initials on a cell bench at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court out of boredom, a court heard.
Triston Newsome admitted criminal damage and was ordered by magistrates to pay £50 compensation and £30 towards prosecution costs.
The 19-year-old, of Grundisburgh Road, Great Bealings, was in court for criminal damage when security officers from Group Four saw the damaged bench.
He had scratched his initials using the zip from his jacket.
"Once he was confronted by Group Four he made immediate admissions," said Tim Ridyard, mitigating. "He was frustrated and bored." Given that he used an abbreviation of his name he wasn't had to detect.
Tim Wyllie, chairman of the bench sitting at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court, told Newsome: "You are obviously not happy being here. You are a young man…the future is in your hands.
"May be this will be a warning to you."
