A QUARTER of a million people are year are turning their backs on the increasingly-busy A14 and Felixstowe Road approach to Ipswich and letting the train take the strain.

Their green revolution is serving as a beacon for everyone - they are beating road congestion and by walking from the station to their places of work are getting in some welcome exercise.

Experts think the figure could be considerably higher - so many people are now catching some of the trains from the resort that the guard cannot collect all the fares before it reaches Ipswich station!

The figures represent a massive turnaround for the line which has seen a huge surge in passenger numbers since an hourly service was introduced a few years ago.

And the numbers have increased by a massive 11 per cent over the last year.
