GREENWICH Community Group, in Ipswich, is one step closer to their dream of a new community building.

The group gave a presentation before the borough council's Community Improvement Steering Group and it was decided unanimously that their case should be put before the authority's executive committee at their next meeting.

The group desperately need a place in which they can run their group and other activities for the area. One of the most pressing needs is somewhere for teenagers to go as lack of facilities has been cited as one of the major reasons that teenagers in the area have been in trouble in the past.

Sharon Wickiewicz, chairwoman of the group, said: "We are so proud of ourselves and really pleased that we have reached this next stage.

"I have never done anything like this before and I was nervous but afterwards the councillors told us it was one of the best presentations they have ever seen."

The presentation took a lot of hard work to complete and it outlined everything from who would use it to the management structure that will be put in place.

Mrs Wickiewicz said they had received a lot of support from everyone.

"We have been working on this since the beginning of the year and have had great support from all over.

"Local councillor Don Edwards has been really good and everyone in the area is willing to help and support us."

The group will not hear the final outcome until November or December but they remain positive about the outcome.

"We are now busy working on the financial side of things so that we know exactly what we can and can not do.

"It is not over yet but we do mean business and if we can achieve this much the next step is to get as many people involved as possible," added Mrs Wickiewicz.
