WHAT has Ipswich got to make anyone want to jump on a train, bus, bike, wheelbarrow or pogostick and hotfoot it here in a hurry?

Well absolutely loads according to Ipswich businessman Paul Magnus. So much so that it has been necessary to form the Ipswich Attractions Group to keep track of them all and promote them professionally.

The group, chaired by Mr Magnus, is gearing up to make sure the whole world knows about Ipswich.

Ipswich Borough Council's Tourist Information Centre answers more than 85,000 telephone enquiries every year, more than 5,000 written enquiries and greets more than 200,000 visitors to the centre.

And 2.5 million people who visit the town every year.

The Ipswich Attractions Group aims to co-ordinate information about the town and fire it out across the UK and beyond in order to attract even more visitors to an already popular tourist spot.

Mr Magnus said: "Our aim is to raise awareness, of the tourist potential in attractions that exist now and of any created in the future."

Brian Dyes, Vice- Chairman of the Ipswich Transport Museum is working beside Paul as Vice- Chair of the group.

He said: "We feel there is not enough awareness of what Ipswich has to offer locally or nationally and we aim to change that."
