Growing Ipswich business Flow Energy looks to create 60 new jobs for 2017

An Ipswich business which started out with four employees in 2012 and now boasts a workforce of 240 is seeking to recruit new customer account managers to join their customer service team.

Flow Energy, based at Felaw Maltings, expects to create 60 new roles within the first three months of 2017 as its customer base continues to grow at a rapid rate - and they are recruiting now through Jobs24.Alex Heys, head of marketing and communications, said: “We are currently recruiting between eight and 10 people every few weeks because we are growing and we have significant plans for 2017. We need to scale up our staff to deal with our increasing number of customers.”

The company has a large customer service team but also has a growing IT team and although most people start out in customer-facing roles, Flow Energy are keen to promote from within.

“When people come in, the first job they have is on the phone dealing with customers,” said Alex. “That could be dealing with queries about bills, helping people understand meter readings or updating their details. Sometimes it is about closing accounts and re-opening them if someone is moving house, or people may want advice on different tariffs as they may think they could get a better deal by switching to one of our other options,” said Alex.

“Once you have experience, you tend to move to a more operational role and we have lots of examples of people moving across careers. Three members of the marketing team moved across from customer services.”

Describing the skills needed for the role, Alex said: “It is less about experience and more about the attitude of the person. We are looking for someone who is fond of people. We have recruited a lot of people from retail backgrounds as they tend to have good people skills.”
