AN Ipswich man has been found guilty of hitting a nightclubber over the head.

A jury took less than an hour to reach its unanimous verdict in convicting 23-year-old Paul Mills of causing actual bodily harm.

During the trial Ipswich Crown Court heard that Mills admitted punching Robert Hutchinson twice in the face outside Liquid Nightclub on August 21.

He was not arrested for this offence but on September 1 Mills went back to the club and approached Mr Hutchinson.

The court heard that Mills believed Mr Hutchinson was seeking revenge so he wished to resolve the situation.

Mills pursued Mr Hutchinson in the club and hit him over the head when he caught up with him.

Mills said he acted in self-defence and denied hitting Mr Hutchinson with a bottle. Mr Hutchinson, a university student, suffered a cut which required four stitches.

Judge Gareth Hawkesworth adjourned sentencing to July 8 for a pre sentence report. He released Mills on conditional bail but told him all the court sentencing options would be open.
