Gym operator Fitness First has sent out a memo warning about the "impact of having larger employees" urging managers not to order uniforms larger than a size 16.
But The Obesity Awareness And Solutions Trust (TOAST) - which battles against size discrimination - described the instructions as "appalling'.
No one at the Ipswich branch in Cardinals Park was available to speak – but a spokeswoman for Fitness First had said it did not discriminate against anyone because of their size.
