Councillors in Ipswich are set to find out how successful speed restrictions on the Orwell Bridge have been on Thursday, when the Highways Agency will present its findings.

The Ipswich Borough Council strategic overview and scrutiny committee task and finish group will meet on Thursday, and is set to get a response to a series of questions put to the Highways Agency over the first six months of its 60mph limit tenure.

Among the questions councillors have put to highways bosses are whether the speed limit has had an affect on the number of bridge closures needed and whether the number of accidents has reduced.

In August, Suffolk police figures revealed that more than 800 drivers were clocked speeding within the first 13 days of the 60mph’s introduction in April.
