VANDALS are today being blamed for causing havoc at a Suffolk school after a sports shed was totally destroyed.

The wreckers struck at Hadleigh High in the early hours of this morning and also left a train of damage to three windows which were smashed.

Caretaker Geoffrey Leathers said: "This is really annoying. There is nothing we can do about this, it is a problem we deal with regularly. They burnt down the shed completely and all they seemed to be doing is trying to ruin the school for us."

The shed contained much of the sports equipment including shot putts, gym mats and other equipment. There were also thought to be groundsmens' tools in the shed.

Firefighters were called at 12.30am and the shed was ablaze when they arrived.

A window was also smashed in the home economics department and two others in a nearby fitness centre. A security light had also been smashed.

Just under an hour later crews were called to Buyright superstore where they had to deal with a secure container at the rear of the store which contained rubbish and waste. No damage was caused to the store.

A crew from Hadleigh attended the incident at 1.22am but did not leave the scene until just before 8am.
