A 14ft long piece of drainage pipe which was found floating in the sea off Mersea Island by coastguards.
A call was made to Thames Coastguard at Walton on the Naze at 12.15pm on Tuesday reporting a large object floating in the water.
Fears were voiced that the object could cause problems for shipping and West Mersea coastguard recovered the pipe and bought it to shore.
