ANT and Dec are riding high with one, Frank Skinner and David Baddiel achieved huge success with another and New Order scored a number one with theirs.

Now it's the turn of an Ipswich landlord to follow in their musical footsteps as he records his own football anthem in support of England's World Cup effort.

Trevor Vincent, who has run the Live and Let Live pub, in Wherstead Road, for 18 months, has recorded a version of the Queen track We Are The Champions in the hope of spurring the team on.

He has laid down the track on CD at the town's Reaction Studios in Foxhall Road which regularly gives the pub's karaoke competition winners the chance to record their songs professionally.

Although Mr Vincent admits he does not have the best voice in the world, he is keen to encourage more of the karaoke champs to take up their prize. Only two out of ten winners have so far made it to the studio.

Mr Vincent, who planned to sing the song with the rest of the pub's staff, until they chickened out, said: "I'm rubbish at singing, total rubbish. But that's the beauty of karaoke – you don't have to be good.

"The philosophy of this is that if I sing, people can't get any worse. No matter how much I practice I never get any better."

He is confident the track is not a premature celebration of victory, despite the fact England still have some way to go in the competition.

And with the intention to play it in the pub before Saturday's televised match against Denmark, it should add to the already electric atmosphere created by the football.

"We've been following England all the way and have got On The Ball and Three Lions on our karaoke machine," he explained. "We had a disco before the World Cup as well.

"And last Friday lunchtime, when England beat Argentina the atmosphere in the pub was totally unreal. It was superb."

Future plans for the song are not yet known, although it is possible it may be sold at the pub.

It is unlikely to make it on to general release but if England successfully lift the cup in a few weeks time, who knows what may happen.

Chilly, who runs the Ipswich studio and recorded the track for Mr Vincent, said: "Ant and Dec are probably getting worried right about now."

Even if the unthinkable happens, however, and England are knocked out of the competition, the song could become the anthem for the Live and Let Live football team instead.
