A seven-year-old Ipswich girl has been left heartbroken after her pet rabbit was stolen.

Rachel Lummas was described by her mother as being "very upset" over the loss of Marcus, a Netherland Dwarf rabbit.

Mum Louise said that the rabbit was taken from the back garden of their Lupin Road home sometime between Monday evening and Wednesday morning.

She said: "Somebody had been in and let him out. We found a metal tube in the garden that was used to smash the padlock on the hutch.

"We've only had him since September – we replaced it when our old rabbit died. We've also just lost our cat, so we've had a bad run lately."

Mrs Lummas said that she thought it was very sad that somebody steal what was obviously a family pet.

"I'm very cross that somebody would do this. I don't know if we will replace him as it is a bit of a risk now and this could easily happen again.

"Rachel gets very attached to her pets and can't understand what has happened to him."

The Netherland Dwarf are thought to be descendants of Polish rabbits and they are not particularly valuable, something which the bunny raiders may not have known.

Marcus is a small bunny and is mainly black with a white patch under his chin and is described as being quite nervous.
