MORE than 1,000 square metres of heath land went up in flames in Martlesham yesterday.
The blaze broke out in two areas of land along Avocet Lane in the village shortly before 3.30pm, and within minutes had engulfed a concrete bunker.
Four fire engines from Ipswich and Woodbridge were called to the scene and the fire was brought under control by 5.07pm.
