As part of a drive to tackle childhood obesity and offer more for its pupils, Heath Primary School in Kesgrave has been taking part in the Daily Mile since September.

On each of the three days pupils do not have PE lessons, the classes take to the school field to walk, jog or run a mile, which not only has a benefit for pupils exercising, but also in focus and concentration levels.

Headteacher Susan Bowditch said: “We had been trying to build up our profile in terms of sport and physical activity for some time and while we had success with our sports teams, it’s about making that offer to all children.”

As part of the Star’s Daily Mile campaign, we are trying to encourage every primary school in Ipswich to take up the challenge.

If your child’s school has signed up, email us at newsroom@archant.co.uk with your thoughts on the project.
