The MET office has issued a yellow warning for rain this morning as heavy downpours threaten to cause localised flooding.
There is a chance thundery showers could hit Suffolk and Essex until around 1pm today according to forecasters.
A spokesman for the MET Office said: “A band of heavy, thundery showers is expected to move from west to east on Thursday morning.
“Some places will miss these, but where they do occur there is potential for heavy downpours producing sudden localised flooding of homes and businesses and disruption to power supplies from lightning strikes.”
Yesterday the country basked in the hottest June day since 1976 with temperatures reaching 34.5 (94F) in some parts of the country.
The UK has experienced blisteringly hot days this week with the mercury hitting at least 30C for five days in a row.
However, the region is set for a more settled and cooler afternoon with temperatures expected to be around 22C (71.6F)
