SUFFOLK is due to escape the torrential rain which caused flooding problems across East Anglia overnight, weather experts said today.

While neighbouring counties experienced heavy rain, Suffolk saw comparatively little rainfall.

Today, the worst of the weather is moving north.

Evening Star weatherman Ken Blowers said: “The worst weather is on its way north, so Suffolk will escape it.

“We didn't get anywhere near as much rain as other counties, and the north of Suffolk was affected more than the south.”

This weekend there are expected to be sunny spells and showers, with temperatures of around 68F/20C.

Overnight, emergency services in south Essex, around the M25, were kept busy helping to try to keep main routes clear.

And in Cambridgeshire police advised people not to drive unless absolutely necessary as roads became impassable in heavy rain.
