Roads policing officers have closed one lane of the A14 eastbound in Ipswich this afternoon.

There is heavy traffic in the area because of a stalled vehicle in the outside lane eastbound carriageway and a diesel spill.

The lane closure is in place between junction 54 for Sproughton and junction 55, the Copdock Interchange, for the A12.

Officers tweeted to warn drivers of possible delays in the area: “#A14 eastbound #Ipswich between #Sproughton & #CopdockInterchange down to one lane due to a diesel spill in lane 2.”

Drivers using the A14 to get to Ipswich and Felixstowe from Bury St Edmunds may experience some disruption.

Highways England are also on the scene and their officers are working to clear up the spill.

They tweeted at 2.17pm today, Saturday March 18: “#A14 eastbound J54-J55 nr #Ipswich. 1 lane (of 2) closed due to broken down lorry. Recovery arranged and en-route. Delays building quickly.”
