Hewitt backs Bartlet closure

HEALTH secretary Patricia Hewitt has today sealed the fate of the Bartlet Hospital by backing plans to close it.In a letter to the county's health scrutiny committee she states that moves to close the Bartlet should proceed, along with plans to close Hartismere Hospital in Eye and reduce the beds at Aldeburgh Hospital.

It is the news campaigners had been dreading since the plans were referred to the health secretary in March, but they have vowed to continue the fight.
