A YOUNG woman has described the nightmare of hearing her sister fall to her death from a fourth-floor balcony during a holiday.

Popular 22-year-old Monique Williams, on holiday with her sister Lisa and four friends from Ipswich and Oxford, slipped and fell while trying to climb from the balcony of her holiday apartment to her friends' balcony next door.

The tragic accident happened in a complex in the Spanish resort of Magaluf, in Majorca.

The sisters returned to their rooms at around 11pm on Monday after having a meal to change before going out.

Monique, who lived with her family in Yarmouth Place, Haverhill, tried to climb across to her friends' balcony, but it had been raining and she slipped and fell. She was certified dead at the scene.

Lisa, 20, who was in another room at the time, said: "I heard everyone screaming and ran to the balcony.

"I saw her just lying there. It was such a shock."

She added: "She loved people. Wherever she went she made friends. She was a complete bundle of energy who crammed 50 hours into a 24-hour day.

"We had such an amazing bond. I don't know how I'll go on without her."

Police woke Monique's mum and dad, Wendy and Neville, at 2am on Tuesday.

Mr Williams said: "I knew it was bad because they asked me to sit down, but I never expected to hear my daughter was dead. It's terrible. She was loved by everyone. It is a very terrible time.

"I used to say to her that she was living life like there was no tomorrow. She never stopped, she just loved life."

An inconsolable Mrs Williams said: "I'll miss her big smile, her life, her vitality. I'll miss it all."

Monique's sister Sharon, 32 and brother Gary, 33, are said to be "devastated" by the news.

The family are Jehovah's Witnesses and, through its world-wide network Monique, a former pupil of Parkway Middle School, in Haverhill, had made "hundreds of friends around the world", according to her family.

The family are now waiting for her body to be flown back to Britain next week following a post-mortem examination which revealed she died of the injuries she received in the fall and had not been drinking.
