Holywells Apple Day, Saints Beer & Blues Festival and Diwali dance headline packed Ipswich weekend

The Autumn festivities kick off the half term week this weekend, as the annual Holywells Apple Day and the season’s beer festival get underway.

On Saturday, the Holywells Park Apple Day will be held in the orchard between 11am and 2pm, where hundreds of youngsters and families come along to celebrate all things autumn.
The event, organised by the Friends of Holywells Park, has become a key part of the park’s calendar as families take part in apple bobbing, pumpkin carving, coconut shy, crafts and enjoy homemade produce from the orchard.
Liz Harsant from the friends group and Ipswich borough councillor for Holywells ward, said: “It really is such a lovely event with lots of things for the children to see and do.
“It’s run by the friends group in conjunction with the borough council and is our biggest event I would say, so it’s great to be able to hold it.”

For those hoping to enjoy a tipple or two, local brewers Beer&Co kick off the Saints Beer & Blues Fest from noon tomorrow where top live bands will combine with craft beers, real ales and wines.
The festival is being held at St Peter’s by the Waterfront, with volunteers from LV= helping man the bar to raise cash for charity Musica.

Friday’s day session runs from 12-7.30pm with free entry fee featuring a house blues DJ, before Stephen Foster introduces live music from 8pm-midnight.
On Saturday, the day runs from 12pm-midnight and features open-mic blues throughout the afternoon and evening.

Event organiser Greg Cooper said the event will “celebrate the best homegrown musical talent alongside a unique offer of craft beers and real ales, plus cider and wine.”

On Saturday night the Corn Exchange will be celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali with a dinner and dance evening, featuring Bollywood music, three course meal and dance, which last year attracted more than 240 people.
Poli Mohan, chairwoman of organisers the Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association, said: “It’s a very big event and lots of people have been asking us for the date. We are really looking forward to it.”
