SEVERAL homes have been evacuated for up to 24 hours following a fire that engulfed a shed containing explosive canisters.
The blaze, in Mill Lane, Upper Layham was put out by 3.40pm but a crew will remain in place for up to 24 hours to ensure three canisters are allowed to cool safely.
A 50 metre cordon is in place and a number of families are either staying with friends and family or at an evacuation centre in Hadleigh.
It was initially feared that the entire village would have to be evacuated as fire raged in the shed of a property in Mill Lane.
Police closed the B1070 between Upper Layham and Hadleigh.
That road has now reopened although Mill Lane and Water Lane remain closed.
