IPSWICH Hospital has been forced to close one of their wards as nine patients are thought to have the winter vomiting virus.

Shotley ward has been closed to new admissions and visitors are being asked not to visit so they do not put themselves at risk of catching the illness.

Jan Rowsell, spokeswoman for the hospital said tests are currently being carried out to determine whether the patients are infected with the virus.

She said: “We have nine patients affected and one member of staff.

“It is not clear yet what the illness is as the tests have not come back yet.
