TODAY , the Met Office predicts fair weather in Ipswich for this morning, with it turning cloudy in the afternoon. Rain is predicted for this evening. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 13C.

Heavy showers saw more than half an inch of rainfall hit Ipswich over the weekend.

Evening Star weatherman Ken Blowers said more than a third of an inch fell on Saturday and a further quarter of an inch during yesterday's showers in the town.

Despite fears of drought, so far in 2006 Ipswich has seen greater than average rainfall. The area has seen just under 22.5inches as opposed to the average of 21.5 inches.

However much of this rain came during very heavy showers during the spring and summer where the water flowed straight away it did not help too much with restoring the water levels.

Anglian Water and Environment Agency officials, however, say that this autumns heavy rains have started to restore water levels underground - and reservoirs like Alton Water are now nearly full.
