POLICE in Norfolk are today hunting a 71-year-old man convicted of a string of indecent assaults against young girls.

POLICE in Norfolk are today hunting a 71-year-old man convicted of a string of indecent assaults against young girls.

Anthony Bird, who normally resides in Kent, has been convicted of 15 counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 and one count of indecent assault on a girl under 16.

Bird was convicted of the offences last month by a Norwich Crown Court jury, who found him guilty in his absence after he failed to turn up for the week-long hearing.

The offences occurred between 1987 and 1994 in the Diss area and involved four separate female victims. Bird has not yet been sentenced for the offences.

He is described as being about 5ft 11ins and is of slim build and has the general appearance of a man in his 60s.
