POLICE are still appealing for information today after a disappointing response to the Sidegate Lane rape inquiry.

Last week an e-fit was released of the man police want to question in connection with the rape but the number of calls received has been small.

A spokeswoman for Ipswich police said: "We have had hardly anymore calls. "There have been about 23 or 24 in total and police are going through that information at the moment."

On Friday the Evening Star issued a series of posters of the attacker which have been displayed in shops in pubs.

Despite this a spokeswoman for Ipswich police confirmed that only two or three more calls had been received.

Because of the vicious nature of the attack the Evening Star has offered a £1,000 reward for any information which leads to the man's arrest.

At 4pm on Monday, March 15 an 18-year-old woman was forced into a home in Sidegate Lane and raped.

It was a busy time of day with students leaving nearby Northgate High School and Sidegate Primary School but there have been few leads from the public.

The offender is described as white in his 40s with short black and grey hair, wearing a black jumper with a round neck.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Suffolk police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
