POLICE are today hunting a sex fiend who attacked an 18-year-old girl in Ipswich.

The teenager was indecently assaulted after she accepted a lift from a man in the Russell Road area of the town.

She was attacked at around 10.45pm on Friday night as revellers would have been flocking to the area to visit nearby pubs and clubs such as Brannigans and Kartouche.

Her attacker, who is thought to be aged between 20 and 30, was driving a white van. He is also described as having a large nose and thin lips.

Police said they were also trying to trace two young men who were seen chatting to the victim as she sat on the pavement close to Staples superstore.

It is believed they spoke to her just minutes before she accepted the lift and was attacked.

Workers in the area today voiced their concerns about the attack.

Receptionist at Fitness First health club Laura Parsons said that the last staff usually leave at around 10.30pm.

She said: "We are not allowed to leave on our own anyway and there are always two of us here."

Security worker at the health club, Peter Borritt said that he too was worried about the attack and was anxious about staff safety.

He said: "It does concern me, particularly as there is no CCTV – that could only help."

Detective Constable Saraya Francis from Suffolk Police is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward. She said: "The victim has been very shaken by her ordeal.

"She is being comforted by family and friends and we would like to hear from anyone who may think they can identify this man."

Detectives are also appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and left with a broken jaw as he walked along an Ipswich street.

The man was walking near the cycle shop opposite KFC in Norwich Road at about 12.15am on June 23 when two teenagers approached him from behind.

One of the youths punched the victim on the side of the face, leaving his jaw fractured, before he and his friend ran off.

The offenders were both white males. One was 5ft 10in to 6ft, aged 17 to 18 and was wearing a white nylon, zip-up top with a hood up. The second was said to be 5ft 6in, aged about 15 to 16 with short, dark, gelled hair brushed forward.

Anyone with information about either incident should contact Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
